This vintage Photochrom was made using a complex, extremely early form of color photographic printing. This award-winning process was invented and patented in Switzerland in 1885. The U.S. Photochroms were made by the Detroit Photographic Company which acquired the exclusive North American printing rights in 1898. While Photochroms have the appearance of traditional hand-colored photographs, Photochroms were actually produced using four to twelve lithographic stone per print, each weighing up to 65 pounds. Each Photochrom is debossed in gold type near the bottom of the print with the print identification number, title, and copyright date. This debossment was done at the time the print was originally created. Please note that the beauty and fine detail of the vintage Photochroms can not be fully replicated in the digital thumbnail you are viewing.Shipping and insurance costs will be added to the price and must be paid for by the buyer.
